Helicopter Commercial Pilots Licence CPL(H)

The Helicopter Commercial Pilots Licence allows the holder to work in the flying industry for remuneration. Before commencing the CPL (H) course the applicant must reach the following minima:

• A total of 155 hours helicopter flying (which must include 50 hours as Pilot in Command of Helicopters). The hours taken to achieve your PPL (H) can be included in this total. The remaining hours can be achieved through self-fly hire.
• A valid JAR Class I Medical Certificate.
• Completed and passed the theoretical knowledge examinations. These are undertaken on either a full or part-time basis, through a specialist provider, depending on your own personal situation.

The commercial flight course is either a 30 or 35 hour flight course dependant on whether you already hold a Night Qualification. The skills and handling subjects are no different to those taught at PPL level, but the flight tolerances are demonstrated to a much higher level. The discipline and cockpit management must also be flown to a much higher standard.
